From the start, Marco and Allen envisioned Bayview Veterinary Center as a practice where efficiency supported both excellent care and work-life balance. “I think we both pride ourselves in how efficient we are,” Marco explains. “We're very big on work-life balance. We're not ones that like to stay late until thee wee hours of the night. We want to be as efficient as possible and also be able to get out at a decent time and enjoy our personal lives outside of the clinic.”
That vision came from years working in practices where the opposite was true. Paper charts slowed workflows, long nights were spent completing records, and short appointments left clients with unanswered questions. Staff were stretched thin, and inefficiency was routine.

ezyVet and IDEXX make for smarter imaging and diagnostics

Technology is central to how Bayview Veterinary Center delivers care, and IDEXX plays a big part in making consultations faster and more client-friendly. Imaging is a great example. As Allen explains, what used to take a couple of hours can be completed within a single consult, thanks to ezyVet’s deep integration with IDEXX Web PACS.
“There was a time where taking X-rays was kind of a big ordeal. But now I’m finding that we’re often able to get the X-rays done in a single appointment slot. Then I’m able to come directly into the room, pull up the X-rays inside ezyVet and go over those findings with the pet parent.”
Doctors can pull up X-rays directly inside ezyVet, review them with clients in real time, and, if needed, click to open the full IDEXX Web PACS for detailed analysis. From there, they can manipulate images, take measurements, or send them out for a radiologist read - with results automatically flowing back into the patient record.
According to Marco, the same smooth, efficient process extends to the practice’s in-house IDEXX analyzers.
“We put in the diagnostic requests through ezyVet, and it sends the request right to our in-house lab machines. Results are automatically imported right into ezyVet as well.”
Once results are in, Bayview’s doctors aren’t left to figure things out alone. With access to IDEXX Medical Consulting Services (a free service available to all IDEXX customers), they can consult with specialists whenever they need another perspective - a valuable support channel for complex cases, newer practitioners, or solo vets.
“To be able to just pick up the phone and speak to a specialist, run over your case with them, and get the tools you need to take the next steps- that's been a really, really nice benefit. It’s always great to have a sounding board, and have the support of specialists behind your diagnostics,” says Marco.
Together, ezyVet and IDEXX give Bayview Veterinary Center the confidence that every diagnostic test is accurate, fast, and fully integrated into the patient record.

Putting communication at the heart of the practice

With the right systems in place, Bayview Veterinary Center was able to bring its vision of an efficient, client-centered practice to life. With less time spent on paperwork and follow-ups, doctors have the bandwidth to provide thoughtful explanations, answer questions, and involve pet parents as true partners in their pets’ care.
“We have found that with our demographic, which is mostly millennials and Gen Z, people really want to feel like they’re part of the decision making process when it comes to medical treatments or diagnostics,” says Allen.
To create that space for meaningful conversation, Bayview Veterinary Center has extended appointment times to 45 minutes - well beyond the 20-30 minutes that’s typical in general practice.
“In that 45 minute appointment, we're oftentimes able to do a comprehensive physical exam, and talk to the client about what's going on and what our options are. It gives us the time to really cater to the individual patient and pet parent. A lot of people really appreciate that and enjoy being part of that experience,” says Allen.
Bringing a vision to life

For Dr. Marco and Dr. Allen, Bayview Veterinary Center is the culmination of a friendship and a shared vision.
